Introducing the Amparo Security Blog
What's in a name?
amparo (ahm-pah-roh) - Spanish: protection; shelter or refuge; help.
Borrowed from the Spanish language, the word amparo is a fitting description for a cybersecurity-focused company. A deliberate choice in wording, amparo accurately describes the vision and direction of Amparo Security - to provide protection and help to its consumers in the realm of cybersecurity.
What's in a logo?
Amparo Security's logo (image below) is just as deliberate in composition as its name selection. Amparo Security's logo is composed of a shield with an owl emblazoned on it. Each component of the shield has significance as described below.
The Shield
The shield is a symbol associated with protection and defense. For Amparo Security, the shield represents the defensive cybersecurity nature of the organization and the protection it provides to its consumers.
The Owl
The owl is reminiscent of a Great Horned Owl. Owls by nature are territorial birds which defend their nest and nearby feeding areas. The territorial nature of the owl symbolized Amparo Security's commitment to protect and defend their consumers assets against threats. The posture of the owl, with spread wings, also symbolizes protection - like a bird sheltering its young beneath its wings.
The owl is also a predatory bird. The emblazoned owl is in a strike posture descending upon its prey symbolizing the offensive cybersecurity nature of organization.
Lastly, owls symbolize wisdom and knowledge. Amparo Security takes pride in the knowledge, experience, and professionalism in cybersecurity it offers to its consumers.
What's in a blog?
Posts on the Amparo Security Blog will come in a few flavors. The first type of post will come in the form of "musings". These will be more a long-form blog post consisting of (hopefully) collected thoughts about cybersecurity practices, topics, tools, and other related issues. These will be primarily opinions formed from knowledge and experiences over the past few years working in the cybersecurity field.
The second type of post will be a collection of articles and other items discovered within the past week. This is inspired by the Last Week in Security column written by Erik over at SIXGEN. These types of posts will be articles that are relevant, interesting, or novel ideas and concepts related to either current events or just overall general cybersecurity practices.
The third flavor of post, will be technically focused, detailing some inner-workings of a project or tool. These will most always have some security spin on them (as this is a security blog after all).
Final Words
This wraps up the first official Amparo Security Blog post and the launch of the amparosec.io website. Stay tuned for future posts.
